Setting up Standard Asset-Based Ordering

Overview

Oracle CPQ 25D introduces the Oracle CPQ platform-based implementation of Asset-Based Ordering (ABO), referred to as Standard ABO. With Standard ABO, ABO-specific package updates are no longer required to enable new features. New ABO-related features are included within the Oracle CPQ Update.

Beginning with Oracle CPQ 25D, all new ABO implementations will use Standard Asset-Based Ordering (ABO).

All existing Package ABO customers can continue to use and leverage their existing ABO implementation. Customer who have implemented Package ABO prior to Oracle CPQ 25D may want to consider moving to the Standard Quote Process and leveraging Standard ABO for their business.

Setup a New Standard ABO Implementation

For customers setting up a new Oracle CPQ site with Standard ABO or who want to leverage Standard ABO features in their existing Commerce Standard Process implementation, the following tasks need to be taken into account:

  1. If you have not already done so, implement the Standard Quote Process. Refer to Commerce Standard Process for more information.

  2. If you have not already done so, enable the Redwood UI layout. Refer to Redwood Quote UI for more information.

  3. Enable Standard ABO processes and flows.

    1. Navigate to the Commerce Options page. Redwood Administration: Admin > Settings & Preferences > Quotes Settings

    2. Click Yes for the Enable Standard ABO Commerce setting.

    3. Click Save.

  4. Implement functionality and customizations to the Standard Quote Process with Standard ABO, consider the following features:

  5. Thoroughly test the Standard Quote Process with Standard ABO on a non-production environment.

  6. Once testing is complete, migrate from your non-production environment to your production environment.

Transition from Package ABO to Standard ABO Implementation

When planning for the transition from Package ABO to Standard ABO, the following tasks need to be taken into account:

  1. Implement the Standard Quote Process and enable Redwood UI layout. Refer to Commerce Standard Process and Redwood Quote UI for more information.

  2. Enable the Standard ABO Process.

    1. Log a Service Request (SR) on My Oracle Support to gain visibility to the new 25D Asset Options in the Commerce Settings page. Once visible, the Enable Standard ABO setting will, by default, be set to No.

    2. Click Yes for the Enable Standard ABO Commerce setting.

    3. Click Save.

  3. Re-implement all existing functionality and customizations to the Standard Quote Process with Standard ABO.

Assets that were created in the Package ABO implementation will not work in the Standard ABO implementation.

When implementing Standard ABO consider the following new Oracle ABO features:

  4. Disable the Package ABO.

  5. Thoroughly test the Standard Quote Process with Standard ABO on a non-production environment.

  6. Once testing is complete, migrate from your non-production environment to your production environment.

NOTES

Customers using Package ABO (Oracle CPQ 25C or earlier) can continue with their current setup. However beginning in 25D, new ABO features will no longer be delivered via migration packages. Refer to Package Asset-Based Ordering.
