BOM Item Tree Administration Page

Overview

The BOM Item Tree Administration page displays the expanded hierarchy and BOM definition information for a root BOM item, child items, and grandchild items. The visual representation of the tree is demonstrated by indentation of variable name by levels.

Variable Name links provide access to the BOM Item Administration page for the selected BOM Item.

ClosedBOM Item Tree with Models as Children of Other Models

A BOM can have models as children of other models. Companies can use this feature to offer packaged bundles containing models from separate product families. As in prior releases, the BOM Item Tree Administration page displays the expanded hierarchy and BOM definition information for a root BOM item, child items, and grandchild items. The BOM Item Tree Administration page also displays root models and other models as child items. Each model can have its own individual parts and models.

The following image shows the BOM Item Tree Administration page with models as children of other models. For example, models "Installation Fee", "Activation Fee", and "Internet Administration Fee" are child items to "Internet".

Note: Child models are not reconfigurable. They behave as mandatory models added by Recommended Item Rules.

ClosedBOM Validation

Beginning in Oracle CPQ 24C, an asynchronous task to validate all BOM hierarchies is triggered when any CPQ BOM data table is deployed. The BOM Root Items list now has a new Valid column to display validity of the listed root BOM items.

When the validation task is in progress, a "Pending" state flag is displayed. BOM hierarchies that do not pass the validation checks are flagged as invalid and immediately throw errors if configured on buyside.

The following icons indicate the status of on the BOM Root Items Administration List page.

Icon

Status

Description

Valid icon

Valid

The BOM has no errors. Runtime validations not executed on buyside. Configuration is immediately verified as having no errors.

Pending icon

Pending

BOM has not been validated yet. BOM is in a not yet validated state. Runtime validations run on any BOM in this state configured on buyside.

Error icon

Error

BOM has at least one error. Runtime validations not executed on buyside. Configuration immediately throws an error if the BOM Mapping rule is triggered.

After the validation task completes, BOM runtime validations will not execute on BOMs marked as passing validation. If a BOM hierarchy is configured before the validation task is completed, runtime validations are still executed to prevent the user from configuring a BOM with errors.

Notes

All sales items must have their part numbers defined in CPQ. If there are any validation errors in the BOM item definition:

  • The BOM Item Tree Administration page displays an error message, at the top of the page.
  • The item with an error is proceeded by error indicator Error indicator icon.

A BOM item definition is marked as incorrect, if errors exist in the item definitions, attribute definitions, or attribute translations. Invalid parent variable name: any rows of invalid parent variable name should be displayed at the beginning of the list.

For more information on item errors refer to BOM Definition Validation.
